Xap Corporation Acquires Leading Online Test Preparation Company
SAT and ACT test preparation services will be offered free to students on selected Mentor® Sites.
Culver City, CA March 25, 2002 Xap Corporation, the leading provider of student services systems known as Mentor®, today announced the acquisition of Number2.com, a leading provider of internet-based test preparation services.
The acquisition will allow Xap to offer students easy to use tutorials for each subject area covered by the ACT and SAT, including practice sessions that dynamically adapt to suit students of differing abilities, a timed diagnostic test, a vocabulary builder with over 2,000 words, and test-taking tips covering time management and guessing strategies.
"We believe that Number2.com's mission of offering high quality academic materials free for all students, fits perfectly with Xap's goal of leveling the playing field for low income families in college admissions," said Xap's CEO Allen Firstenberg.
"We are excited to work with Number2.com's talented management and technical teams, and believe that Number2.com's test preparation content will be an important addition to the services already offered on Mentor® sites."
Mentor® sites make the entire education process easier for students, providing assistance in selecting universities, planning to meet admission requirements, applying for admissions online, understanding financial aid opportunities and eligibility, and planning a career.
"The opportunity to join forces with the recognized industry leader in student services systems and online applications is a great one for us," said Eric Loken, COO of Number2.com.
"Through this merger we hope to become the most widely-used source for students taking standardized tests."
Since its launch in September 2000, over 130,000 students have enrolled in Number2.com's courses.
The company will become a wholly owned division of Xap Corporation, and will maintain offices in State College, PA and Culver City, CA.
