XAP Enhances the Department of Education's Student Website with Added Services to Assist College-Planning Efforts

Student Aid on the Web program is expanded with new features that support all phases of college preparation, from planning to admissions.

Culver City, CA – February 19, 2004 – Xap Corporation announced today the integration of its distinctive, Internet-based student services with Student Aid on the Web (SAOTW), the U.S. Department of Education's premiere website on planning and paying for college for students and their families. The enhanced site (www.studentaid.ed.gov) was launched in September 2003 with a variety of online services from Xap that will help improve students' efforts with selecting a college, meeting requirements for admission, submitting admission applications, and researching career and financial-aid opportunities.

"The integration of Xap's student-based Mentor System with the Department of Education's website is a good union," said Allen Firstenberg, President and CEO of Xap Corporation. "This project will increase access to post-secondary education for all students, regardless of their socio-economic status."

Student access and usage of the site's services are free. SAOTW features:

  • The College Selection and Campus Tours sections which allow prospective students to compare institutions, match their needs and interests against what an institution has to offer, and take a multimedia tour of any college or university throughout the U.S. to obtain detailed information.
  • MyFSA which tracks a student's personal information, college and career interests, high school courses, grades, and test scores (SAT, ACT, and Advanced Placement). MyFSA provides a customized summary that identifies whether or not the necessary requirements are being met for the student's college interest.
  • The ability to easily and securely submit admission applications online.
  • Financial-aid information and tools to assist prospective students with determining estimated costs for attendance, choosing and evaluating financial-aid lenders, and understanding financial-aid opportunities and eligibility requirements.
"Xap is proud to be involved with this important nationwide effort that will increase usage in Mentor systems across the United States, well beyond the usage of 25 million visits last year," said Allen.

Headquartered in the Los Angeles area, Xap Corporation focuses on the creation of comprehensive Internet-based information management systems relating to secondary and post-secondary education. Founded in 1990, Xap is the leading developer of online student services systems for associations and statewide groups of colleges and universities across the United States. Xap's national website at www.xap.com and all Mentor® websites provide the necessary tools for students to select and prepare for college, apply online, learn about financial-aid opportunities, and explore career options.
