Xap Corporation Wins Contract Renewal with California State University System

New contract to deliver comprehensive enhancements to the CSUMentor student website.

Culver City, CA – December 7, 2004 – Xap Corporation (www.xap.com), the leading provider of integrated student services systems for the higher education marketplace, has been awarded the California State University (CSU) system contract to continue supporting the CSUMentor (www.csumentor.edu) student website. This is the fourth major contract won by Xap this year that include IllinoisMentor (www.IlliniosMentor.edu), California Colleges' Student Friendly system (www.californiacolleges.edu), and the Student Access to Higher Education system for the state of Georgia.

The CSUMentor site, developed by Xap Corporation, was launched in November 1996. In its initial year, more than 618,000 students and counselors visited the site, and more than 36,000 students applied for admission through online and downloadable applications. Now after eight years, more than 2.5 million students have used Xap and have submitted more than 435,000 applications to CSU campuses.

"Since the inception of CSUMentor in 1996, Xap consistently provides excellent service to our office, campus representatives, counselors, and prospective students," said Allison Jones, CSU's assistant vice chancellor for student academic support. "They are committed to making CSUMentor the program aiding all of California's students to recognize their options for attending a higher education institution. Xap continually provides services that address our needs – educational systems, campuses, counselors and most importantly, the students."

CSUMentor provides prospective students and their families the capabilities to learn about the CSU school system, select a campus, get information on admissions requirements, cost-of-attendance expenses, available financial aid, and apply to a CSU campus. CSUMentor offers many helpful features and tools. A Plan for College section divides areas of interest for students at particular points in their education: middle school, high school, college, post-baccalaureate, transfer, and graduate. High school students can use the High School Planner tool to plan their curriculum to meet CSU admissions requirements. Counselors and educators can find specific and helpful information on the Counselor & Educator page. The site is free to use – students pay only the standard application fee charged by the CSU campus.

"The continued success of CSUMentor is a direct reflection of the forward-thinking leadership and commitment from CSU to make the education process easy and friendly for students and their families," said Liz Dietz, CEO of Xap Corporation. "Xap values the partnership and shared goals we have with CSU to ensure that CSUMentor continues to be a pioneer for all student access to higher education in the California State University system."

Planned enhancements to CSUMentor include:

  • A 'For Parents' module that will provide information and tools to assist parents using the CSUMentor website.
  • The SLOPE™ (Student Loans Over Projected Earnings) calculator developed by the College Access Network to assist students in determining what their student loan payments would be in comparison to projected first-year earnings or income.
  • Branch-campus information on the satellite locations for all CSU campuses.
  • A calendar of campus-specific events and programs.
  • A comprehensive tutorial to show users how to use the tools and information provided on the site, including a tutorial specific to the Undergraduate Admission Application.
