New Online Program to Help Texas Students Prepare for College Admissions Tests
Texas Online Preparation for College Admission Tests (TOPCAT) project gets its SAT ACT together.
Culver City, CA November 4, 2005 A consortium of Texas state educational agencies is collaborating with Xap Corporation (www.xap.com), a leading provider of Internet-based educational services, to provide a new online program to help Texas high school students prepare for the SAT and ACT tests.
The program, Texas Online Preparation for College Admission Tests (TOPCAT), appears on the existing CollegeForTexans.com website.
Powered by Number2.com, Xap's test-prep division, TOPCAT features tutorials, practice questions, a vocabulary builder, and a coaching system that allows teachers to monitor the progress of their students.
In the coming months, Xap will add Spanish-language ACT and SAT tutorials to the existing English language content.
The TOPCAT program features materials that dynamically adapt to each student's ability level, providing customized feedback and ensuring that students of all ability levels are challenged by the online courses.
Utilizing a computerized adaptive testing model, the program focuses students on materials that will provide the greatest benefit.
"Texas high school students deserve the best online educational tools to successfully prepare them for college admissions tests," said Glenda Barron, Associate Commissioner for Participation and Success at the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board.
"Xap's comprehensive program allows students to work with their teachers and parents to obtain extra coaching as needed."
After a competitive bid process, TOPCAT, a partnership among the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board and other state agencies, awarded Xap a multi-year contract to design and operate the program.
"We are excited to have the opportunity to help prepare Texas students for college admission tests", said Liz Dietz, CEO of Xap Corporation.
"Xap's test prep solutions, powered by Number2.com, have been used with great success by over 900,000 students nationwide, and want to acknowledge the TOPCAT leadership for making test prep available to Texas students at no charge."
