West Virginia and Xap to Deliver Statewide College and Career Planning Transitions Portal This Fall
Culver City, CA May 20, 2009
The West Virginia Higher Education Policy Commission (WVHEPC) has expanded its contract with Xap Corporation to develop a single statewide college and career planning web portal to help students transition from middle school to high school to college, as well as tools for adults in transition which will be available beginning this fall. It will encompass features from the popular West Virginia Mentor site (WVMentor.org), along with adding new resources for career and education exploration for middle school students, adults and high school electronic transcript delivery statewide among participating institutions.
"We are excited about the opportunities to broaden college access for West Virginians through our enhanced partnership with Xap," said Brian Noland, WVHEPC Chancellor. "Through this innovative service, we are able to provide a one-stop-shop for students to learn about, apply to, and pay for college."
Xap Corporation was awarded the current WVMentor site contract after a competitive RFP process in fall 2008. The site presently offers information and applications on West Virginia's PROMISE Scholarship Program, high school Choices® career planning tools, 28 online college applications, ACT/SAT/GRE test preparation, and other financial aid and college access resources.
"West Virginia has historically been a leader in improving college access for all of its students," said J. Michael Thompson, CEO of Xap Corporation. "This new one-stop portal will engage all West Virginia students as early as middle school to have a single destination to explore and prepare for education and career opportunities, which will be instrumental in opening opportunity for college completion and improving the economic lives of the next generation."
